Vladimir
Tropp -geboren in Moskou- studeerde van jongsaf aan op het fameuze
Gnessin-instituut bij gerenommeerde Russische pedagogen, die afkomstig waren
uit de school van de befaamde Heinrich Neuhaus zoals Mosei Feigin en Theodor
Gutman. In die periode werd hem verschillende keren de prestigieuze
Rimsky-Korsakov studiebeurs toegekend. In 1963 sloot hij zijn studie met
onderscheiding af. Tevens won hij verschillende prijzen onder meer bij het
Internationale Enesco Concours in Boekarest. Kort daarop werd hij reeds op
jeugdige leeftijd benoemd als leraar aan het Gnessin-instituut. Sindsdien
heeft Vladimir Tropp zich een grote reputatie verworven als leraar.
Vladimir Tropp is dan ook een uitgesproken vertegenwoordiger van de oude
tradities van de typisch Russische stijl. Talrijke studenten die bij hem
studeerden hebben belangrijke prijzen behaald bij internationale concoursen.
Sinds 2004 is Tropp als docent tevens verbonden aan het Tsjaikowsky
Conservatorium te Moskou.
Vladimir Tropp heeft masterclasses gegeven in vele landen zoals: Nederland,
Amerika, Japan, Korea, China, Engeland, Frankrijk, Duitsland. Romantische
muziek is zijn specialiteit met name de Russische componisten: Rachmaninoff,
Scriabin, Medtner, Tsjaikowsky en Borodin.
Zijn befaamde collega Lazar Berman schreef over Tropp: He is a singular
and subtle artist. Sincerity and poetic manner, improvisatory freedom and
rhythmic flexibility, a highly coloristic sound join with a powerful and
strongly willed conception: these are the essential traits of the artistic
personality of Vladimir Tropp.
Vladimir Tropp
maakte talrijke opnames, vooral voor het Japanse label Denon met composities
van Schumann, Chopin, Brahms en talloze Russische componisten. Eén van zijn
CD's -genaamd Russian Miniatures uit 1998 voor het label Denon- verkreeg de in
hoog aanzien staande "Japan Record Academy Award". (beste
CD van het jaar)
Vladimir Tropp nam deel aan allerlei festivals zoals te Kuhmo in Finland en
Portogruaro in Italië en maakte toernees met de violist Ilya Grubert in
allerlei landen. Beide kunstenaars zijn te beluisteren in een opname met
werken van Shotakovitch.Vladimir Tropp publiceerde eveneens talrijke artikelen
in muziektijdschriften, verzorgde radio-uitzendingen over "Distinguished
pianists of the 20th century" en maakte een speciale studie over het
leven en werk van Rachmaninoff waarbij allerlei archieven bezocht en
bestudeerd werden.
Vladimir Tropp wordt regelmatig gevraagd als jurylid in internationale
concoursen en is lid van de Rachmaninoff- en de Scriabin society in Rusland.
In Nederland werd Vladimir Tropp reeds eerder uitgenodigd voor masterclasses
en recitals door de conservatoria van Den Haag, Amsterdam en Groningen alsook
door de E(uropean) P(iano) T(eachers) A(ssociation), afdeling Nederland.

Vladimir Tropp, born in Moscow, began his studies at an early age at the Gnessin Music School of Moscow. He was soon awarded various scholarships, including the prestigious Rimsky-Korsakov Fellowship, and completed his studies with honors in record time. Since that time he has acquired a reputation as both an outstanding soloist and a teacher. He had participated in competitions, winning many prizes including the Enesco Competition at Bucharest. Many of his students won prestigious prizes at international competitions. Currently, as soloist and master class teacher, he travels all over the world; Europe, America and Asia. He endeavours to perpetuate the Russian school of pianism, with considerable success. His specialty is Russian music, especially that of Scriabin, Medtner and Rachmaninoff.
At the invitations of the Conservatory of Amsterdam and Epta Holland, Vladimir Tropp has been to Amsterdam, The Hague and Groningen. In Amsterdam, he gave a very successful recital with compositions of Tschaikovsky. In the Concertgebouw, he performed together with Ilya Grubert and made recordings of Shostakovich compositions for Channel Classics. Vladimir Tropp also made recordings for the Japanese label Denon, including Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Tschaikovsky’s "The seasons". His recording of Scriabin's Preludes opus 11 and Medtner's Second Improvisation are quite famous. His CD "Russian Melancholy" with pieces from Glinka, Borodin, Moussorgsky, Rubinstein, Rebikov and Kalinnikov is very interesting. Vladimir Tropp is often requested to be a member of the jury in International Piano Competitions.
